Stitches Indigenous Community Engagement Program ( Wolkara Elders Group- Aboriginal Social Support Program)

This program engages the local Aboriginal Group, the Wolkara Elders, to connect to the community. The program is about the sharing of culture and encourages the learning of arts and craft, and arranges events and fresh meals, Nursing home visits and Wolkra Yarning
We actively support the mental well-being of the elders is a safe, social environment. Regular health checks and talks through partnering Networks including NSW Health and Aboriginal Health Groups.
The Stiches Indigenous Collection and printed artwork table runners are designed with the help of the Wolkara Elders and proceeds go towards continuing the program. We have also created a drawing booklet called Widja the Green Tree Frog, to engage primary school students with a story from Uncle Elvis. Further books are to be developed through this program to support the stories of the elders.
